About Our Program

The Bible Speaks radio broadcast is committed to the study of God’s Word.  It practices a word by word, verse by verse exposition of individual books of the Bible, Bible topics, and Bible doctrines. This broadcast began in August of 1985 during a seven month short term missions trip on the island of Antigua, West Indies.  Keith’s father-in-law, Rolen Cornelius who was the director of the Caribbean Radio Lighthouse on the island of Antigua, asked Keith to start a radio broadcast. The Bible Speaks has aired during the weekends on the Caribbean Radio Lighthouse since that time.  In 1991 The Bible Speaks began airing Monday through Friday on the Harbour Light of the Windwards radio station on the island of Carriacou, Grenada. The Harbour Light of the Windwards was also founded by Rolen Cornelius.

Keith Ekberg, his wife Rebekah, and their four daughters, Sarah, Christina, Esther, and Ellen, served the Lord at the Harbour Light as short term missionaries for seven months in 1998 and for three years from 2001 - 2004.  Due to health reasons, their family is remaining in the USA and continuing their radio and literature ministry as they are able.  Some of the programs that have been broadcasted are:

  • The Miracles of Our Lord
  • The Seven Feasts of the LORD
  • The Names of God in the Old Testament
  • The Seven Judgments of God
  • The Epistles of I & II Peter
  • The Study of Christology
  • The Biblical Teaching of Heaven and Hell
  •

The Beginning of the Harbour Light Radio Station

The Harbour Light radio station is located on a small island of the West Indies in the southernmost part of the Caribbean, about 150 miles north of South America, on the island of Carriacou, Grenada. Grenada, the main island, is133 square miles with a population of 90,000.  Carriacou, a separate island and a state of Grenada, is 13 square miles with a population of about 9,000. The country of Grenada, which includes the islands of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique, is one of the smallest independent countries in the Western Hemisphere.  It gained its independence from Britain in 1974.  Grenada began to face a crisis in 1979 when a Marxist-style bloodless coup was led by Maurice Bishop against Grenada’s first Prime Minister Eric Gairy.  After Bishop took over Grenada he started instituting a moderate Marxist system, but others wanted to push Grenada towards a more orthodox Marxist system.  When Bishop failed to do that, he was shot against a wall in the historic Fort George military Barracks by a Marxist Communist military council on Bloody Wednesday,  October 19, 1983. The presence of thirty Soviet advisors and about eight hundred Cuban soldiers in Grenada showed to Ronald Reagan that Grenada was being made into a communist stronghold. On October 25th 1983 President Ronald Reagan sent 6,500 U.S. troops to protect over 600 U.S. medical students and to deliver Grenada from Communism. The U.S. troops quickly destroyed the communist radio station that was only test broadcasting, and within a few days captured the ring leaders, as well as hundreds of their Cuban advisers.  Free elections were reinstituted the following year.  Due to this great deliverance Grenada celebrates their Thanksgiving Day on October 25th.  It has now been twenty years since Grenada was delivered from communism by former President Ronald Reagan and ultimately by the Lord.

Let me share with you how the Lord was working behind the scenes. In 1978 the former president of our mission board, Jack Buttram, received permission from the Grenadian Government to establish a Christian radio station on the island of Grenada. Not long after, in 1979, the first coup took place and communism began taking over the country of Grenada. One of the first things that the communist did was to establish a communist radio station with a 100,000 watt transmitter that could have reached the entire Caribbean and beyond with their atheistic and communistic teachings. Our gracious Lord, thankfully, raised up Ronald Reagan, who had fought and hated communism for almost forty years, to strike a mighty blow against communism. To think that the Lord of light and love would use the need to establish a Christian radio station in Grenada to begin the toppling of Communism. After the second coup on October 19, 1983, President Reagan sent the U.S. troops to Grenada. The Lord had ordained the light of the Christian radio station (the Harbour Light) to come and dispel the darkness of the evil one (Satan). But the evil one knew the plan for a Christian radio station and decided to set up his own radio station. The communist radio station was the first thing destroyed by the American troops and the Lord went forward with His plans for the Harbour Light of the Windwards. Grenadians are thankful to God for their deliverance from communism, but the Lord desires to bring an even greater deliverance -- a deliverance from sin’s bondage to the Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. Since the Harbour first began broadcasting on December 1st 1991, hardly a day goes by that a listener does not call or write the station expressing their love and appreciation for the Harbour Light Radio Station. Only eternity will reveal the countless numbers that have been encouraged or won to the Savior. To God be the Glory great things He hath done.
